Referencing Like a Pro

The Concept of the W+M E-Mag = A concert of SEO details

This may seem exaggerated to many, but for a bilingual webmaster of my time with communication studies, I regularly create and write annual editions of content, emails, articles or magazines.

To increase the visibility of W+M, I used an online blog and created a set of articles displayed in the form of a monthly magazine published virtually with free subscription by email and an active presence on social. I choose Facebook, Instagram and X.

From trials to errors for the first three issues, the final concept of the Monthly Ticket was finalized in March 2024 with the production of a media kit of 12 editions, a virtual magazine concept including a 3000-word report, two columns from 1200 to 2000 words and an electronic store advertising purchasing system.

The online domain www.web-plus-marketing.com was completed and issues the Monthly W+M e-Mag since March 2024. On this domain, 8,000 readings of 4.21 minutes on average were recorded at the beginning of September 2024.


I Was Surprised

What did I do to get these numbers? With only regular promotion on Facebook, Instagram and X without a planned budget? The answer is website SEO.

I referenced EVERYTHING on the web pages to be displayed by Google, Yahoo and Bing. I wouldn’t finish certain pages until I had a 100% score in the SEO check tools.

The W+M investment for the first year is a domain name and hosting (I chose Squarespace and a print media distribution site template for the two-year launch period) and the time for programming and writing. Zero dollars has been invested in the promotion so far. Five hundred dollars was put into Meta’s ads from the advertising sales percentage.

But how does a site become so visited using SEO techniques? How do the search tools work? The Monthly Ticket of October will tell us with more about search tools.

W+M is a sharing of over 25 years of experience in digital marketing

W+M publishes the Monthly Ticket at the beginning of the month, and weekly publications on digital tools intended for the sale and the representation of products and services for businesses.

This two-sentence company summary involves much more than a description of fewer than 30 keywords. There is a story, a concept and concrete actions that define it much more than two lines of text to fill out.

I present to you the initial idea of ​​W+M. Its origin is directly linked to the topic of this month ticket: referencing and research tools. More powerful than I thought!


The Idea of the W+M Virtual Magazine Concept

Working to coordinate marketing and publishing in the media sector since 2020, the creation of the virtual monthly is an immediate response to Google’s October 2023 boycott of the distribution of news content in Canada. Having noticed the rise of views and statistics of articles of more than 1200 characters. Editorial not listed as members of the media by Google was having a boost. This was the case for my personal site, jeffmaheux.com and editor friends.

Yes, my personal site, my portfolio, with barely 100 reads per year since 2019, had reached 12,000 reads of my articles and reports about marketing. The average of reading was more than 3 minutes. Same kind of statistics for November and December 2023.

The decision to launch an e-magazine was made in December 2023, and everything put online in January 2024 under the name Web + Marketing. W+M Services; Québec, Canada.


The First Year of W+M

Transferred since March 2024 to the new domain Web-Plus-Marketing.com, it was on August 27, 2024, that the 10,000th page read of the blog section was reached. Looking at the average reading time for each article, it’s now up to 4 minutes and 21 seconds.

According to data from readers who wanted to share their information, 1,669 visitors read more than 8 pages of the site, with 868 returning in the first 6 months, from March to August 2024.

A Search Tool finds me

A fact Story 2016-2024

It was in 2016 that I designed my first professional website as a portfolio using a web platform. I had worked in web publishing for a long time and knew what to do to get a website seen. No problem, 8,000 visitors in the first three months with a $50 promotion on Facebook and a clip of my musical compositions on mute.

The mistake! I was not at all ready for so much attention and communication to be written, production to be carried out and above all, to have the time to think to sniff out the good and bad options.

Yes, the tool had found me and promoted me much more than I thought. I had to close my beautiful website and disappear for a few months, virtually, while I fixed the situation.


SEO according to standards

However, I was not richer than anyone else, I did not have a dazzling professional reputation posted on social media or an exceptional promotional campaign. I only created a website and went to great lengths to fill in all the technical details. I have not programmed any incentives, used references from so-called popular blogs multiplying my content for nothing, or transmitted any incentives en masse through the media.

I only produced a website for my clients and prospects of 10 pages (5 French-speaking and 5 English-speaking), referenced each item on each page about them, and published my site.

We are now in 2016. This is the website www.jeffmaheux.com. Yes, it was brought back online in 2017 and has a new look since October 2023!

SEO Jack: A New website to be Found

It was last spring that the web-plus-marketing.com domain was put online for the public. Then, a total of 20 pages (10 fr and 10 en) were indexed in the required Google tools. A company profile in the Business section on Google was also completed and branded.

The pages of the site are using the same SEO techniques as every professional website do.

The blog section was created the following month by transferring the articles from an existing website (jeffmaheux.com - webmaster and composer). The new W+M website aims to feature digital marketing content, with the original jeffmaheux.com returning to its original function of demonstrating music production only.

Let's look at the statistics for the first 6 months. Did the search tools find the new W+M website?

Here are the visit statistics for the first year of W+M, after the first 6 months. We can see the distribution of content doesn’t happen upon publication. It took a few weeks before results and clicks by Internet users reach its potential. Of course, this curve only shows visitors on the site, not visitors who saw the links on their search result, but didn’t click.

 

The August 27 of 2024 = 10,000th Views

Using the SEO techniques, the result seems to be heading in the same direction for the rest of the launch year. The 10,000th reading has been reached at the end of August. Visitors have read a page and left. Visitors read several pages and visitors closed the page after a second. However, looking at the average reading time for each page of 4 minutes and 21 seconds, it allows us to believe visitors appear to be reading the content (or felt asleep) for several minutes.

It will be interesting to check, subsequently, if the action links on the pages are used and lead to the purpose of the web page (purchase of the product, customer contact, comment on the article, etc.).

The November 2024 edition of the Monthly Ticket is about annual statistics. It will tell us more about the study of W+M statistics. We will finally know if all the readers have fallen asleep.
