Maximizing Your Website Programming Time
Webmaster Column - Office News - No 7
Hello,
The word programming was in the spotlight last month at the W+M office since it was the time to integrate the first step of the e-Boutique on the website with the product programming. In the coming weeks, the second step will be integrated, i.e., automated payment; and the subject of the Office News of August.
So, let’s talk about item programming and web editing and especially the time you need to plan for it. Here is the webmaster column of the month: website programming time.
The webmaster column on the daily management of websites, Office News, presents: 2024-07, Website Programming Time.
The Cost of Programming a Website
When purchasing a new car, there are certain standards and personal preferences we establish in our search criteria. In this search criteria, there is an obvious question that must also be answered which is the operation of the machine; it is rare we accept to buy something that does not work. There are therefore, behind the car and its proper functioning, a certain amount of time was put in the manufacture to meet the standards, conditions, legal and commercial aspects, and many other levels of product design, making the car work, been put on sale, been promoted, etc.
It’s the same thing for a website. All the following aspects must be thought of when releasing a first website and all have a cost, whoever does:
Site type and hosting and domain costs and the programming of identification and administrative parameters of the website.
Conception of visual and video material and subsequent costs.
Writing page texts, parameters description and SEO, and subsequent costs.
Programming the design, layout and testing each page, product, item, blog post.
Website launch and promotion time, and subsequent costs.
Site and company referencing in search tools and link indexing, and subsequent costs.
Regular management of the website, daily layout, verification of statistics and responses from customers and visitors, and subsequent costs.
It is therefore necessary to plan an adequate annual budget, a website from a programming package of $300.00 from an individual webmaster for 10 hours of programming will only give you the following numbers from the top list: 1, 4 and 6. So, who will take care of the other steps of the list, which are also crucial in the operation of an active business website, and often necessary even before the start of programming? Of course, many entrepreneurs will do it by themselves in a startup mode, but remember when programming, we are not doing money most of the time.
Calculate the Cost of Day-to-day Management
To give an idea of the total budget for website design, SEO, updates and annual verification, study of statistics and the promotion to bring visitors on the website (social media, Google ads, third party and physical display and advertising) and who will take care of managing these tools and projects, is sometimes the great unknown from startups. I usually recommend starting with a professional page on social media before even thinking about producing a website, the time to get use to the job.
Also, let’s remember, a website has annual costs; it’s not a photo album that will remain active like an image gallery on Facebook. Making a website to showcase wedding photos may be expensive in the long run.
The Frequency of Changes
Think carefully about your first presentation and your first brand image. It is annoying to have to make frequent changes on a branding. Customers like to know about a site. The easier it is for them to use your digital tools, the more they will use them. That’s why it’s good to reduce the number of drastic changes.
Remember the last update of your favourite app, where we can often read a lot of negative comments in the following hours. If you make major changes too often, it may happen again. It’s better to implement small changes, one after the other, by explaining how it works to your customers. You can also make a promotion to introduce this new feature, which will encourage curiosity and perhaps more traffic to your site.
Learn how to work accurately and organize your digital tools efficiently and thus, you will have the best clientele in town!
An organized and structured website requires a few minutes of verification per day. A site that is managed daily will be more likely to be displayed in search results.
Content Verification
Your site is usually the first glance at your business and thus is directly associated with your reputation. A site must be functional, in order, with its clickable links, but the most important thing is the veracity of the content. It is essential to display truthful, verified and verifiable information (the law of the three Vs). That’s why it’s always recommended to check its content before publication.
Keep in mind that a mistake can often become a sale to a competitor, in addition to affecting your credibility. This is the reality of the spontaneity of the digital market. No one likes to waste their time because of lies or misinterpretation. A technical problem, such as a faulty link, can be forgiven, but not false statements. Remember that anything that is posted online, even for a few minutes, can be photographed and most importantly, spread on social media.
Verification During Design and Testing
When editing and programming website content, it’s important to take the time to go around the site and test after each update. I suggest checking your changes on another device too using your mobile or tablet, to keep an eye on every version. Sometimes, a perfect layout on your mobile is not the same on a tablet or on your mobile.
Also remember to put yourself in your customers’ shoes when inspecting your site. In this way, you will discover how to improve the content by adding the latest up-to-date information, displaying policies, legal tips, headlines and procedures to prevent possible questions from visitors.
Natural Referencing
Often called SEO, for Search Engine Optimization, the natural referencing that we do for a website consists of an organization of the different parameters, titles and descriptions, which allows search tools to understand the content of our pages. The most popular search tool is Google, but you’re also familiar with Bing, Yahoo, etc.
Although this method is becoming more and more a standard in website programming, it is, in the medium and long term, a good investment of time and allows for continuous business opportunities.
The W+M story. The W+M site is programmed on the Squarespace platform, where I edit several sites and where I am a programmer advisor. The domain and the original site were created several years ago from WordPress, then transferred to Squarespace, and then split into two different domains (web_plus_marketing.com and jeffmaheux.com) to separate the marketing entity and the music creation entity on the company. As you see, websites also have their story and sometimes come from a long way.

Conclusion
I hope this paper allowed you to prepare and will help you in the process of creating your first website with a realistic annual budget.
We see a lot of entrepreneurs having questions about their first website in the networking groups, like Facebook. Of course, this is difficult to answer in a simple conversation from a post and it may be required to ask detailed information in the business model we don’t reveal in a public forum, for Grace!
The direction of the company, future development projects and other information that we don’t necessarily want our competitors to learn about, as well as part of the entrepreneur’s business project, will determine the type of site to choose with the possible budget and the management time required.
See you on the Blog!
