This edition if the monthly e-magazine is all about Music and Publicity! It officially announces the introduction of an audio production to the W+M’s service offerings with the annual partnership with JM Musique.

Presenting the event Meet the Cat!, this edition also features the Musical Theme of W+M and the launch of the video of its song Under the Clouds! Read the report about the making of the audio track and the production!

If you like rap and hip-hop, 1987 to 1991 are great years to listen to. End of 80s hip-hop names I still listen to: the first album by Young MC (my favourite) and Neneh Cherry, all Beastie Boys’ albums, Ice-T, Salt N Pepa, Public Enemy and Run DMC.

For several years I was looking to integrate my passion for music creation to my professional career as a marketing writer and editor.

An evening and weekend passion

For a long time, I was in front of the screen during the day and in the evening doing two separate things. Marketing work in the daylight and music, mixing, composing and singing at night. I always practised performing and phrasing in parks and fields, so as not to drive my neighbour’s crazy. Especially the rehearsal for performing the lyrics, once the diction and articulation have been done, where a line can be repeated for 10 minutes on 60 different ways to sing it. We go down the entire text of the song all afternoon. It’s annoying, even for myself.

You now understand I did this part-time, sometimes putting music projects aside for months or years, particularly during the pandemic. I have songs dating from 1998 to 2006 that haven’t yet been worked in the studio and others without mixing and vocals.

I have since moved to the City of Québec with all this baggage, and it’s truly the case to say it. With the audio trends being in demand in the marketing and branding of businesses with clips, video and balado’s, it was natural to start an Audio Production House and offer musical soundtracks of all kinds. So now, we have Québec tracks entirely produced by and for local industries to embellish marketing promos, corporate videos and podcast jingles and even personal Story and Reels on Socials!

So here we’re now. The audio production house JM Musique was founded on July 2, 2024, and the website was online 12 days later at www.jmmusique.com. Do you like the mojo?

Of course, creating a music theme is not that easy! Here is a report for the occasion. Let’s find out how about the production of the song and what happened in the studio during its creation, from composition to the voices’ final mix!

A Music Theme, It Makes All the Difference

The choice to use a song for the theme of the W+M e-magazine was made naturally. We needed music with a good tempo and easy instrumentation, to keep the possibility of adding a spoken voice during eventual promotions, but without knowing whether it would be a male or a female voice. So there was no need for brass in the song or imposing keyboard arrangements.

Of course, there are several editions of the frame: a track of 10 seconds (for news and radio ads), of 15 seconds (radio and TV ads becoming more and more common, and reels), of 30 seconds (radio and TV advertisements in normal rotation, and for use at the end of a program or closing video for credits), one minute (for long clips on social media and serving as a frame for announcements or reports) and a final track of more than 3 minutes, i.e., the complete song as an instrumental for all other future uses.

This is five versions of musical tracks produced by JM Musique that you will have the opportunity to hear for the main W+M advertisements, network messages, publications on Tik Tok and YouTube, without forgetting the production from the intro of each edition of the magazine.

Chronicle 8: How to publish and promote the first press release.

Compose a well-thought-out press release

It was on July 1, 2024, when all the deck chairs in the shade of the swimming pool were taken, that I decided, finally, to write this press release by returning to work in the air conditioning.

There are some news stories that are big announcements for a company. They’re slightly more important than other daily communications and promotional campaigns. That news who deserve a cake to celebrate with the colleges at work, and which everyone shares on their personal social with pride. It’s at this time that I immediately think of issuing a press release. Well, that’s why I’m the one who writes it, since I suggested it to the team. Ah, I didn’t know this rule yet ;).

It’s OK! If you’re in the same situation, don’t worry, I’m used to, or rather too used to, press releases. Simple, a piece of cake!

I’ll explain to you what I’m doing with news that I have to publish to the public. I’ll use the announcement event Meet the Cat from the music production company JM Musique becoming annual partner of W+M as an example.


The Benefits of Official and Precise Communication

I remember this lesson from school. I learned the results of poorly distributed miscommunication in a team during the first days of my January classes. A political scandal had broken out during my current actuality’s class in the first year; we learned how to sort information in order of importance for news reports. During the following days, we could study the importance of having an official communication to distribute to all members of the company and to public relations.

Of course, this example is extreme and relates to an unfortunate event, but the same goes for announcing good news, a new clothing season, a large-scale show or event, or even internally during a meeting of four people. A communication needs to be prepared and it must be well written to serve as a reference for everyone, both internally and externally of the company.


Press Release Example

Having read, written, translated and corrected this communication numerous times, I can guarantee there is mainly one way to write effective communication for a press release. And most of the models found on search tools respect this principle, which is the basic of a press redaction. It didn’t change for years and will probably still respect this: a PR doc contains the following elements and in order:

1- the announcement and the date of release. Always positioned at the top of your document in a font that is readable.

2- The title of your news, which includes the name of the company, the action or event name, and the date and time if it’s an event. Such as the title of the news that would appear in a newspaper.

3- A presentation text in the form of three sentences, or paragraphs, in order of importance. This text is the official communication of your announcement and ideally, if a journalist can’t cover the event, they will copy this text. You therefore understand that the writing and the vocabulary used here must be professional.

4- Two or three other and useful links to your information that could be used by readers wanting to share the news.

5- Mention of partnerships and other participants with their logo if needed. Don’t go out in public without a partner mention or logo. Just don’t. Never. I always send my communications for their approval before releasing.

6- The end of communication statement to be disclosed - 30 -

7- the communications contact details of the company issuing the communication, and if necessary, a description of the maximum two lines of the company featured in the news.

That’s all! We don’t provide more information than necessary and we direct the reader to your website event page, where all extra information is published. I don’t recommend heavy and difficult kind of vocabulary and wording in a PR.

Here are the PDF versions of the press release that I will publish. Since the target audience is bilingual in Quebec, I’m making two versions to simplify the task for members of the media.

Budget: $0. Writing an official communication, publishing a press release and spending time researching prospects and contacts in the media to help distribute information can be done at no cost, or by dealing with an agency of public relationship, which often already has a contact database and more defined methods of disclosing communications. Of course, doing it ourselves will bring us connections and opportunities to have visitor statistics on our website, whereas agencies can’t always reveal this information to us, but it’s longer.

Tip: We, media and publishing workers, love to receive press releases with links to press sections on websites and above all, that this section includes images if they aren’t provided in the press release.

Personally, I always choose to publish news that has visuals first, avoiding having to search in image banks. A press invitation with an image and with the image credits and names with titles of the people on the picture is the best. It can only take me two minutes to post this release. Publishers also remember companies that send well-organized news like this. Believe me, we immediately spot the emails of our favourites in the news lists and what we do, we publish them quickly ;).

Tools: All the applications necessary for writing and creating visuals. There is absolutely no additional technical cost in creating a press release than what we already have. I compose them on my cell during hockey games during commercials.

No 8: Programming in batch

The event calendar to configure, virtual store items and serial articles and emails for the year to produce, there is a lot to publish on an active business website. There are ways to help yourself and contravene the indefinite corrections following publication.

This web edition column will serve as a reference for us to organize ourselves well in serial programming. And this, before the simmered sauce is ready to serve, the pot of secret spices from the recipe forgotten in the cupboard…

How to Prepare for Seasonal Programming  

Hello programmer. Let’s prepare a coffee or a beverage and probably a snack. It’s time to be in a quiet place conducive to concentration so as not to be disturbed.

Also, programming in batch can be repetitive and I tend to drop my concentration level after 45 minutes. That’s when I pick up to come back five minutes later and avoid possible errors.

Finally, when you’re about to get your third coffee in two hours, consider grabbing an apple to snack on something Body! Green isn’t a good skin tone;).

Prepare Images and Files for Import

I think ordering the titles of images and files in advance is an asset. Especially when we’re programming over a long period of time and to put the program task aside for later. I prefer to name everything on my computer then import in the web system.

Thus, the images to be introduced into our management system (CMS) include a referred image title!

In the settings (parameters) of the sites, there’s the option of importing files with the source identification elements. This is what I use on this site. This avoids inserting referencing lines on each item when programming, and adding repetitive tasks and the possibility of errors.

Note on Images and File Names

During publishing, we no longer recommend naming files with underlines between words, for example this_is_the_cover_image.jpeg. Now, let’s write our image title as a sentence, without accent letters and other signs: the cover image of the fall marketing magazine.

The link to the image file, once imported into the CMS, can then become: …the-cover-image-of-the-fall-marketing-magazine.jpg….

Can’t we do better for SEO?

Writing the General Info of Inventory

When we program items in batch, the goal is to put as much basic information into an item that becomes our test, template or model. This element will always serve as the starting model. Of course, a webmaster copies the template and works on the copied file, which will be published as a product, service, article, etc. This is often the folder named Don’t Touch, Don’t Delete in a web database.

At the level of writing information in a product, a service, or an e-store item, the globalization will be the key and will save a lot of time. It’s the general text we program in the item, while the details are displayed in the option of the item. We therefore program a basic text for a t-shirt, with details on the fabric, the composition of the material, the size chart (showing all the sizes) and the links to the purchasing, refund and delivery policies — leaving the colour, size or model of long or short sleeves in the item options, which the customer will choose during the purchasing process.

Always Search to Reduce Your Programming Time

This way of doing things will save you from revisiting each newly programmed item to adjust the colours, sizes and other information in the text of the item as well! There will only be images to adjust in your new item, reducing your programming period by several minutes per item. It’s huge, the time saved this way, especially for multilingual stores. And who says short configuration means more money for new projects! Yay!

Of course, the template text must include all the purchasing instructions and basic details of the inventory, or at least a large part of it, even if it means having two templates with unique texts or policies. (For example, a 100% cotton item model and a cotton/polyester, knowing in advance that all the texts will always be the same and that the items are renewed.)

Just like the holiday season or long weekend, the back-to-school period is important in virtual sales.

Several opportunities must be prepared, besides the annual publication for the following year which must already begin to be distributed and the design of the visuals and the writing of promotional texts.
