The Notes from the Writing Book
A street text part 2
Continuing the texts of the observation of the bar scene of the song At the Corner, the words of Credits concern the world of drugs and nightlife in the city of Montreal seen by a young adult arriving in the metropolis.
The chorus was written first while I was learning the guitar. While responding to an advertisement for courses and production, I met Mr. Angelo Labbate. I was very nervous when I showed him the tabs of my first compositions. From 2000 and 2001, we gradually worked on the arrangements that became the current ’80s musical version of Credits.
The mixes were worked on periodically until 2003. Different styles, rhythms and types of percussion and drums were tried. So much so that interest in this piece waned and was finally abandoned. It should also be noted that the style of popular music of the time no longer lent itself to this version of the song.
However, it’s an excellent instrumental piece. After several months, I thought it was a shame to have invested so much energy for nothing and Credits returned to the studio. It was in 2004 that the final lyrics were set and a new version of Credits was recorded. Of course, this version will be presented to you in the next March 2025 issue of W+M magazine!

Selling here, right?
I’ve been watching you around.
Advocating the white power
To everyone who pays you, right.
You deserve all the credits. The pleasure is guaranteed.
And the girls freezing on the streets, do they still enjoy the party?
The new one only worked an hour to have a super candy
She’s been the hottest of the night, a promising thirteen.
Mr. the President, I guess,
The rule is perfectly clear.
The little princesses are always pampering the King!
Mr. the President tonight you are the best man to meet!
You deserve all the credits.
And you’re giving charity.
They are getting a private gift
And they buy more and more of it.
A guy is dancing in the club, he never danced there before.
I think he feels glorious right now, he met the king at the door.
Easy to feel strong in this kingdom until you spend the last penny.
What have you been doing today? Did you forget to eat?
Mr. the President, I guess,
The rule is perfectly clear
For little princesses and dancing princes in need!
Mr. the President tonight you are the best man to meet!
All little princesses
Little princes in need
Mr. the President tonight,
You are the best man to meet.
Lyrics, during the year 1999.
Music at the end of 2003 and beginning of 2004, then abandoned.
Conclusion
As you might expect, there was no recording of the vocal tracks during the Credits 80’s era. There was only this written: You deserve all the Credits! Hey Mr. President I guess, the rule is perfectly clear.
This is also the sentence that appears on the visual of the piece.
In the next publication: Credits 25. Yes, the song was subsequently returned to production with the slogan: let's start fresh. Blank sheet keeping only the chords. I must admit, I don't know if Angelo found me funny, but the challenge was met.
Thank you for reading and listening!
Jeff
